I'm Mohamed Magdy, though you can call me LateBrix. I build Android apps and ML systems, and I care about shipping work that stays useful outside the lab. I also founded MetrLoom to make data science and ML feel less “mysterious” and more reachable for high school students.
I learn by building, breaking things, and iterating until they work. I care about clarity, real constraints, and doing the kind of work I’d be proud to put my name on. If something here resonates, feel free to reach out.
# Machine Learning & AI
AI-Based Adaptive Traffic Controller
Computer vision + real-time control system using YOLOv11 for vehicle detection and an Xception-based CNN for traffic density estimation. Integrated sensing and reversible-lane logic; reported results include 60s → 22.5s average wait time and +155% flow capacity (simulation).
Arabic Sign Language Translator
Deep learning-based translator using TensorFlow with EfficientNetV2. Recognizes Arabic sign language gestures and translates them into readable Arabic text. Includes both the ML model and a complete Android application.
AI-Powered Landmark Classification
Image classification for 50 landmarks, moving from a CNN-from-scratch baseline to transfer learning. Improved generalization with augmentation and careful tuning.
# Android Development
ELWAI Educational Platform (ISEF Finalist)
Offline-first Android learning platform built for low-connectivity classrooms, with encrypted peer-to-peer content sharing and an AI tutor that can re-explain concepts in multiple ways and adapt practice based on progress.
Emission Maps (NASA Space Apps)
Kotlin Android app that turns satellite/open datasets into interactive greenhouse-gas emission heatmaps and hotspot exploration.
Arcent (Published on Google Play)
Shipped a native Android app end-to-end: concept → UI/UX → implementation → release, with a focus on reliability and a clean user experience.
TuketionParser (Kotlin HTML Parser)
HTML parsing library for Kotlin with CSS-like selectors, XPath queries, and template rendering support, designed with extensibility in mind.
# STEM Capstone Engineering
Air Purification Capstone
Interdisciplinary capstone project focused on designing a practical air-purification approach and validating design choices against real constraints.
Wastewater Treatment Capstone
Capstone project exploring treatment concepts and engineering tradeoffs, with an emphasis on feasibility and measurable impact.
Floodwater Harvesting Capstone
Capstone work around collecting and reusing floodwater, focusing on system design, constraints, and implementation considerations.
Hybrid Renewable Energy Generation Capstone
Capstone project on hybrid energy generation design, balancing efficiency, cost, and practicality.
# Organizations & Leadership
MetrLoom - Founder & Director
Non-profit democratizing data science education. We provide scholarships (1910 to date!), run hands-on workshops, and reward students for building real-world projects. Impact: $237,000 in contributions.
Asyut STEM Hack Club (Scripting Nest)
School-based hack club focused on scripting fundamentals and building small, real projects. The community emphasizes learning by doing, sharing resources, and helping beginners get unstuck.
